Okay, let me see a show of hands of people who wish
that they could financially do as they well please and not pay what is owed. Who
is buying the "I didn't read the fine print" excuse? Why are we burdened with
bailing out the greedy vultures who have taken their golden parachutes and left
Wall Street in a mess. What happens on Wall Street will eventually ease down
Head Avenue. The mortgage mess, the banking fiasco, the stock market and the
overall economy is in the tank and now you and I have to pony up a kazillion
dollars to bail the money changers out. I personally would love to tar and
feather some oil executives but I don't have enough gas in the truck to go after
them. How is it fair for the American taxpayer and people who have made their
mortgage payments on time to bail out the people who took out risky loans they
knew they couldn't pay back? Oh wait, I hear the American taxpayers could make a
profit on this "business venture"? Time will tell. No one seems to be taking any
responsibility on this economic crisis that we are facing. We aren't getting any
leadership out of Washington, that's for sure. They are too busy pointing
fingers at one another. I am sick of 'em all!
We are now a month away from the election. Friends, I am going to cast my vote
for the person who comes up with a real plan. A plan that will get this economic
ox out of the ditch. Get me some pie charts and some graphs like Ross Perot had
when he ran in the 1990's. Show me the money!
That is why I voted for Perot twice. He at least had a plan. We need somebody to
steip up. It can't wait. My grandmother and mother were FDR Democrats because
they never forgot what happened in the 1930's. I can recall my grandmother
referring to "Hoover days" as a synonym for bad times. I heard of families with
children with nothing to eat but corn bread and sorgum for weeks and months at a
time. I heard about bank foreclosures and bank busts. My grandmother told me to
always be grateful for what you have because there are many people worse off
than yourself. Her eyes would well up with tears when she expressed the pain of
seeing barefoot kids with nothing in their bellies. It took a big effort to
right the ship. Back then America had some leadership. Today we have finger
pointers and the blame game continues. I am going to tie a knot in the rope and
hang on. How about you? Have you thought about what your plans are for
retirement?
I put a pencil to it and if I retired today, I figured out that I have enough
money saved to live the rest of my life, as long as I die before Halloween.
