I have spent most of the holidays out here avoiding the traffic and pitter patter of drive by shooters in metro Atlanta. Waking up last Monday I was looking forward to a hot shower and to get something's done around the house. I turned on the water only get get an ice cold stream of the Tallapoosa River flowing out the shower head. I thought it might be the pilot light of the water heater gone out and called city hall. Ms. Polly promptly had a high up in public works to check it out. We were greeted by 3 inches of water in the basement. The water heater had finally gone south and I had to get a new one. I called Richard Gentry who sent Ken Moses out to handle my situation before neighbors would begin complaining about my unshoweredness. Moses parted the waters of the basement and got me fixed up and I took a shower that lasted until sometime Tuesday afternoon. I also was looking at my electric stove that I inherited when I bought the house 3 years ago was old. I think Thomas Edison used to cook on it. I went out to Crossroads Furniture and Jack Jackson sold me a smooth top stove so I could heat up my Swanson's frozen dinners. I began to reflect on 2009 as perhaps one of the best years of my life. I remembered loosing some of my most cherished friends in the past 12 months. I attended a couple of weddings and saw happiness. I saw my children playing in the yard with the neighbor's kids and hearing a lot of laughter. 2009 will be remembered as the year that we saw how the Congress of the United States are a pretty benign lot. I still don't understand the two thousand plus page bill on health care.  We saw our state legislature rocked by scandal last year. We saw that the top sports personality in the world of golf had feet of clay.  In 2009 we learned of H1 N1 and I got that shot and the regular flu shot but still had a chest cold for the past two weeks. I am looking forward to 2010 being a great year. You can look around and see Tallapoosa growing. The new CVS Pharmacy will have more parking spots than Arbor Place Mall. I like the fact that I can get a Big O burger next door at the Burger Chick when I get my Zocor prescription refilled. I am hoping that all of you will have a great year. I am now living for next Thursday and the BCS National Championship game between Alabama and the University of Texas. Leon Rutheford and his son Craig are headed to Pasadena for the game. They are going by way of Las Vegas. Oddsmakers out there say that Leon will have to walk back to Tallapoosa. Leon has never accepted the fact that Coach Bryant has been gone for almost 27 years. Leon tried to tell me that he saw the Bear walk across Logan Martin Lake in Pell City one time.
Alabama Crimson Tide fans are a passionate lot. Roll Tide!
