I see where the L.A. woman who gave birth to the octuplets who has a total of 14 children under school age has hired "Purpose Driven Life" Rick Warren's former publicist. I see what her purpose driven life is, to ride the backs of the people of California. Nadya Suleman is 33 and single. I think it might hurt her chances of getting a date anytime soon. Can you imagine what a trip to Disney Land would be with all of them piled into a Dodge Minivan? They all wouldn't fit in a van, you would have to lease a Greyhound Bus.  A trip to McDonalds will cost several hundred dollars and must be approved by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
I want to thank Judy Price for the nice note and for jogging my memory about the Tallapoosa High School newspaper the "Devil's Digest". I had forgotten the name of it. I also am in the market to buy the Tallapoosa High School yearbooks from 1966-1969. It seems that I have mine copies of "The Talisman" packed away in the basement and I would have to hire a team of archeologists to find them. Chatting with Ms. Bettye at Lipham's Department Store a few weeks back brought back some great memories of Saturdays in Tallapoosa when the town buzzed with commerce. Going into Lipham's you could get a pair of Lee Rider blue jeans and a pound of hoop cheese custom cut by Mr. O.D. Lipham. You could buy baloney sliced a half inch thick if your wished. He also might break out his harmonica if he was in the right mood which was most of the time. His grandson Rod taught me about the blues and folk music. He knew about Seals and Crofts years before "Summer Breeze" and "Diamond Girl" topped the charts in the 1970s. I could never remember their names. I once introduced them at a concert I was emceeing as "Arts and Crafts". I still like to go to Lipham's to remember a better time. To get my spirits up I will wander in to visit with C. W. Hart who can still do a dead on impression of Hat Roberts. I love to walk down Head Avenue and remember the smell of fresh popped corn at the Empire 5 & 10 as an Elvis movie was playing at the Grand Theater. I question the belief that we have made progress in our lives because of a 24-hour Wal-Mart being just up the road? I have had burgers from Boston to Maui to Nagano, to Rome, Italy and Georgia  and I still think the Tasty Treat's slice of heaven is the best burger I ever had. You could put one on the top of my head and my tongue would beat my brains out trying to get to it.  Since the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has picked up all their newspaper boxes and you no longer have it available which gives you all more reason to s upport the Tallapoosa Journal, I have to share with you a story from last Monday's AJC about how the recession is pounding our beloved state. Cheerleaders for the sale of Sunday booze sales are making the argument that because of the economy we have to start selling Merlot and Heinekin on Sunday to keep the state solvent. As a boy growing up in Tallapoosa I remember people talking about Sunday sales of alcohol. Seems you could get it then if you knew the right people.
I wonder what Speaker Murphy would think about the proposal?
Spring is less than a month away. Are you all as ready for it as I am? I have spring break and a week away from teaching coming up soon. I plan on spending some time at my favorite resort. The zip code is 30176.
