The Hannah Montana movie is a hit. I know because a couple of Fridays ago I sat in a theater in Carrollton with Callie and Presley with many of their age group who love Miley Cyrus and her alter ego Hannah Montana. I know that I was one of the few adult males in the theater and I have to say that blowing $19 on tickets and $20 on popcorn and soft drinks was well worth it. The kids wanted the sound track to the movie once we got back into the truck. We went by the Target on U.S. 27 and they were sold out. I bought the last one they had at another retail discounter a few days later. I am now exposed to a constant barage of Hannah, Miley, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts and Billy Ray Cyrus. Billy Ray Cyrus was wonderful in the movie and also in the Pax Television series "Doc". That is where Miley got her first chance in front of the camera during the shooting of the series in Toronto. She got her first stage exposure when she was two at one of her dad's concerts. Billy Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All" is a great cd. His song on the Hannah Montana soundtrack "Back To Tennessee" is a smash. "Achy Breaky Heart" is one of the most popular songs I ever spun in my radio career. Did you know that Billy Ray Cyrus was signed to Mercury Records by Harold Shedd who is from Bremen? Harold Shedd was a disc jockey and station owner of WWCC in Bremen. I am hoping he goes into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame someday for his contributions to the industry. He also was one of Nashville's hottest producers having worked with Glen Campbell, Mel Tillis, Roger Miller, Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, Willie Nelson, Shania Twain, and he produced supergroup "Alabama" and the biggest hits of the hottest group in Country music history. Twenty years ago his home state inducted him into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Harold Shedd brought a lot of honor to Haralson County. I again want to pose a question to the city government of Bremen and the country government of Haralson as to why there is not a "Harold Shedd Parkway"? What does it take to give this native son who has brought honor to his place of birth the recognition he so richly deserves? After all he did with the signing of a pen give us Billy Ray Cyrus who gave us Miley Cyrus who brought life to Hannah Montana. I was reading last week about a guy in Peoria, Illinois. Peoria is the hometown of "One Day At A Time" singer Christy Lane. I know you have seen her on television hawking her albums over the years. It is also the birthplace of Richard Pryor who during the 60s was a favorite of Denver Morgan who loved his performances on the Ed Sullivan Show. Peoria, Illinois recently had a guy making a scented candle for his fiancée. He set their house on fire, causing $80,000 worth of damage. I also am wondering about the anti-American book that Venezuelan President-Dictator Hugo Chavez unexpectedly gave to President Obama a week ago. I read where the book zoomed up the Amazon best-seller list. It is one of Chavez' favorite books along with "Chicken Soup for the Nutcase". I am gearing up for the 17th Annual Rhubarb Jones Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday, May 5th at the Golf Club of Georgia to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. An estimated 3,360 Georgians were diagnosed with a blood cancer in 2008. Upwards of 900,000 Americans are currently living with blood cancers. American legend and icon Charlie Daniels will be there and I'd love to have you come to.
